It is the only place for a hot meal on the mountain within an hour of the resort, and the hut scores 4.4 on Google from about 1,900 reviews.
About the place
The restaurant and the terrace seat 70 each, and the hut says it cooks simple dishes. Hikers stop here on the way up to Toaca or walk only this far, for a half-day outing. From the terrace you see Durău, the Bistrița Mountains and the western side of the massif, with Toaca and the Panaghia rock.
On Google the hut scores 4.4 from about 1,900 reviews; on TripAdvisor the restaurant scores 3.7 from 12. The spot has long been the halfway stop to Toaca: the first tourist shelter here dates from 1876.
Good to know
- You can only get here on foot, on the red-stripe trail, in about an hour and ten minutes from the park office in Durău.
- In winter bring boots, spare clothes and a torch: it gets dark early in the forest.
- Call ahead in winter to check the kitchen is open on the day you go up.
