It is the house of Creangă’s “Memories of My Boyhood” (Amintiri din copilărie), restored and reopened in June 2024.
About the place
The house was built in 1830 by Petrea Ciubotariul, the writer’s grandfather, and given to his son Ștefan as a dowry in 1835. Ion Creangă (1837–1889) grew up here and left in 1855 for the Socola seminary near Iași. The house has an entrance hall, a living room and a pantry; the living room is furnished as a 19th-century peasant home, with a stove, a wooden bench, a dowry chest, old icons and spinning and weaving tools.
The memorial museum opened in 1951. After a restoration funded by Neamț County Council, it reopened on 2 June 2024 with a new exhibition space. Next to the house is the Ion Creangă theme park, with characters from the writer’s stories.
