It holds the Brad hoard, with more than 480 pieces, and the portrait of Stephen the Great painted by Epaminonda Bucevschi in 1884.
About the place
The museum was founded on 1 September 1957 and has more than 150,000 items, most of them from archaeological digs in the area, such as Văleni, Gâdinți, Săbăoani or Brad. The permanent exhibition fills 15 rooms of the Nevruzzi House, a Baroque building; the ceilings of three rooms keep murals painted by Ludwig Branner in 1884.
The highlights are the Neo-Eneolithic hoard from Brad, with more than 480 pieces, and the portrait of Stephen the Great painted in 1884 by Epaminonda Bucevschi for Bishop Melchisedec. One display recreates the layers of the Brad excavation. The Fălcoianu House opposite hosts temporary exhibitions and a room on the history of medicine in Roman.
