A trip on the small passenger boat Reșița shows you the lake and Ceahlău from the middle of the water.
About the place
The lake formed after the dam was closed in 1960. It is about 35 km long, covers about 32.6 km² and is up to 97 m deep; the water level rises and falls by tens of metres depending on how the power station runs. The villages of Potoci and Secu, both part of Bicaz, lie on the eastern shore, and Ceahlău rises on the western side.
The tourist harbour is on the left bank, next to the dam. The Reșița and smaller boats leave from here, and the Port Bicaz complex has a restaurant, a floating terrace, the floating hotel Lebăda and cabins on the shore. On 15 August, Navy Day, the harbour usually holds a celebration on the water.
Good to know
- Boat trips run in the warm season; in winter, call the harbour (+40 740 055 981) to find out whether any boats go out.
- You can see the lake all year from the car: the DN15 crosses the dam and follows the eastern shore through Potoci towards Poiana Teiului.
- The floating hotel Lebăda and tables on the floating terrace are also booked through Port Bicaz.
